About Indian Rock Elementary
Indian Rock Elementary School has been a valued part of the community for more than fifty years. Construction of the school began in 1972, with a formal dedication held on November 4, 1973. Located at 1500 Indian Rock Dam Road in York, the school sits near the York County Heritage Rail Trail between Indian Rock Dam and the Wyndham Hills neighborhood, providing a scenic and welcoming learning environment.
When the school opened, it served students in kindergarten through sixth grade with 20 classrooms. Today, Indian Rock Elementary School educates approximately 300 students, continuing a tradition of academic excellence while maintaining a supportive and close-knit school community.
Academic Excellence
More than 35 dedicated professional staff members provide a comprehensive and engaging educational program recognized among the finest in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Indian Rock Elementary students consistently achieve strong results on Pennsylvania state assessments, ranking among the highest-performing schools in York County and throughout the state.

School Day & Learning Experience
The student day begins at 9:00 a.m. (doors open at 8:50 a.m.) and ends at 3:45 p.m. A typical student day includes the core subjects of English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, social science, and related arts, including art, music, applied engineering and technology, physical education, and library. In addition, string orchestra, band, and chorus are available for interested students beginning in grade 4. There is also a club program throughout the year, as well as a bi-annual musical.
Supporting the Whole Child
Indian Rock Elementary’s educational program is guided by both the building action plan and the district’s strategic plan, ensuring continuous growth and improvement. Teacher committees focus on important areas such as school climate, emergency management, and family engagement. Students are assigned to instructional teams of teachers rather than remaining in a single self-contained classroom. This departmentalized approach allows teachers to specialize in specific subject areas while giving students the benefit of strong relationships and the feeling of belonging to a smaller learning community.
